Equine Coaching Collaborative

We collaborate with Handlers, Trainers, and herd owners throughout the country. Although we all do different things and in different ways, our main bond is that we love horses! Mary Baca, Equine Assisted Coach partners with Herd Owners/Guardians June Stanley and Laura Shultz to assist clients in their healing journey using the powerful medicine of horses.
Laura Shultz located in Edgewood, NM is a born and raised New Mexican native who grew up in Albuquerque. Ever since she was little she has been drawn to animals, and horses always called to her. She took riding lessons as an adolescent and her parents leased her a horse but she took a break before high school. Laura’s love for horses stayed consistent. Laura got the opportunity to volunteer at Walkin N Circles horse rescue for a college course while she worked towards her bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Because Laura continued to have a love for horses, she jumped at the opportunity. She found healing in working with rescue horses which guided her back into the horse world That is where she met her first heart horse, “Storm”, and her horse ownership journey began. Later Laura adopted her first mini horse, “Dolly Parton” as a one year old from her neighbor. Laura and her husband moved to Maryland for three and a half years taking Storm and Dolly along. While in Maryland, Laura adopted another miniature horse “Fizzy”. Storm unfortunately passed away while in Maryland, so when Laura and her husband decided to move back to the east mountains in New Mexico she was very thankful to be able to bring back Fizzy as a companion for Dolly. Laura has always felt the healing powers that animals so naturally provide to others and has found a passion in tapping back into natures innate ability to heal the soul. Laura is a licensed bachelor of social work in Maryland and Delaware and working towards her continued education in the helping profession in New Mexico. She holds certifications in Early Childhood Development as well as a teaching assistant license here in New Mexico. Being able to help animals and humans heal together is a dream come true for her. Laura & her herd offer individual, couples, group, services and workshops!

June Stanley ~ Located in Edgewood, NM June was born and raised in rural, upstate New York, the youngest girl of 13 children. She has called New Mexico her home for about 24 years. June’s family had ponies and horses growing up, whom they often just hopped on and rode, not ever worrying about using a bridle or saddle!
June has always had a deep connection with animals and feels most at home surrounded by nature. She feels this sense of 'wildness' has fostered her love of mustangs. June adopted her horse “Chama” from a local NM rescue in 2013. He was a wild stallion that had recently been captured in northern NM. Even after being gelded, he still had much of his stallion behaviors. She immediately fell in love! June and Chama have been on an adventure back into the wild. Along the way they have befriended several more wild mustangs, 1 more from NM and 6 from different BLM HMAs. They all live together on 40 acres in Edgewood, NM, in the mountains just east of Albuquerque. June and her herd are deepening their connection and building their relationships with each other.
June’s goal or purpose in life is to help horses and humans heal from trauma. She feels that reconnecting as a human community or herd is essential for our well-being and ultimately our survival.
In addition to June’s passionate work and relationship with horses, she holds a Masters degree in Engineering Management, a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, and was working towards a PhD in Explosives Engineering when her heart began pulling her in a new direction. June studied equine behavior extensively while working on a Masters in Equine Science and Behavior (still in the works!). June is also working on a certification in Equisomma, a Somatic Experience involving humans and equines. June offers Equine Assisted Services including individual, couples, and group and retreat!
